Every little part of this book is delightful. Like the author's other books it shows a genius for the observation and portrayal of family life, and maybe just of life, but I found the overall structure of the novel to be arbitrary. I suppose this might be purposeful - a slice of life - but I felt let down at the end. It's really better than a 3 star book though, perhaps 3.5.
