A missing handbook for those looking to advance in the software industry. Don't be misled by the "manager" in the title, this book is for technical leaders of any sort, as there are either useful tips that are directly relevant, or it provides an excellent insight into the jobs of your management and executive counterparts.
It's structured in order of seniority, starting with less formal roles like mentorship, coaching and tech lead before discussing management proper and working it's way up to senior management. These earlier roles serve to provide the experience and backbone that the latter rely on and experienced technical staff will probably find themselves fulfilling some of them, even if informally.
There is a rough outline of the breadth of work required at each stage and lots of wisdom to pick through. Overall this an excellent guide that I'd recommend to anyone who's reached "senior" status and wondering what comes next.
