This was tough to start with, not because of the patois or the multi-character structure, but because it's hard to understand what all the stories have to do with each other or what's really going on. At times the violence is so overwhelming that I had to take a break from reading. However it all becomes much easier and quite engrossing by the end. The hard work pays off when you see the full scope of the story; the result is quite powerful.
