This is a very nice book with many helpful features. It has guidance on thread sizes, with an image of the same object done in 9 thread types to give you a sense of the weights of various types.

Patterns are given in diagram form, not detailed text code.

There are good photos of the instructional bits, as well as clear diagrams. The sweet and accessible projects have information on how much thread you will need with a handy thread guide for each project. Has one-shuttle and double-shuttle examples.

Besides typical medallions and table mats and runners, there is a simple scarf, bookmark, necklace, headband, etc. Someday I'm going to wonder where the "sea spray" table runner was, and it's in this book.

This one might be worth purchasing for a beginner.
