Since the book is called Glittering City, I'd expected it to be about 1960s Lagos. But while the book gives you a glimpse at what life in the city was like, it gives you little in the way of descriptive prose. I've seen images of modern-day Lagos, but I found myself having trouble imagining what Fussy Joe's apartment would've looked like.

Instead, the descriptive prose is dedicated to the women in Fussy Joe's life, not just their physical qualities, but their characters, and how the traits that allow Fussy Joe to manipulate them also lead to his inevitable fall.
