Scott Westerfeld: Evolution's darling (1999, Four Walls Eight Windows) 2 stars

Review of "Evolution's darling" on 'Goodreads'

2 stars

Probably a somewhat harsh rating since it was somewhat intriguing. I think it suffered in my opinion because of the comparison to his wonderful YA books. I don't have a problem with the adultness of this book (i.e. the rather graphic sex) just so much of it seemed so over the top. Ok, most of his YA stuff is the same, but there is something that works better with them about that.

It also seemed rather scattered and disjointed. There were lots of important questions raised about AI, freedom, happiness, art, etc. Some of those were followed then lots of them just seemed to disappear. It was an interesting creation of a universe but it just didn't always seem to hold together.

I'll keep trying other Scott Westerfilds but this one really did disappoint.
