tw: mentions of abuse, rape, and slavery below.
i found the prose to be self-indulgent and violet, but ymmv.
the amount of work put into the backstory and lore could’ve been promising if chunks of the book weren’t dedicated to a slave woman (who was groomed and “excited” to become one? lol?) being beaten half to death and then violated while unconscious, several different times, so she can’t remember—and then because of her ~~special mote~~ she totally enjoyed it guys! she’s giving her retroactive consent because she loved it so much. besides, it says right here in the contract she could’ve refused and she didn’t (because her ~~special mote~~ prevented it) so that means it’s still safe, sane, and consensual. checkmate.

this book is non-con (or “dub-con” if you really want to reach and don’t think it’s rape) fetish fuel and more to add to the pile of rags misrepresenting BDSM for clout. not representative of actual BDSM at any point, rife with abuse and rape, even romanticizes the abuse, victimhood, and the child sex slavery extant in this world
and if you’re thinking “it can’t be that bad”: it is. don’t read it just to check unless you know you get your rocks off from it.
literally would rather read the entire fifty shades series than look at this book again
