It is just so beautiful to go directly from a dramatic kidnapping into an equally dramatic conversation about particle physics.
This has happened twice in this book. Different kidnappings and different discussions.
Since I've never wanted children, I found it tough at first to sympathize with the characters' biological urges. I was tempted to chalk it up to just Weird Alien Psychology.
But I have to admit that sometimes I think what if. Getting pregnant wouldn't kill me, but it would be horrifying in its own way. And raising children is something I could never see myself doing even if I were financially stable.
But that what if crosses my mind every so often, regardless.
