Review of 'Venus on the Half-shell' on 'Goodreads'

2 stars

This book was written by Farmer pretending to be Kilgore Trout, a character in Kurt Vonnegut's novels who writes terrible books. The title of the book is a title referred to in one of Vonnegut's. As another reviewer said, this book is written like intentionally bad Vonnegut, and it succeeds; on the other hand is life too short to read bad Vonnegut? I have to agree and say yes. This is an intentionally bad parody of the worst of 60s/70s science fiction and it is indeed pretty bad. Unfortunately I just didn't find it witty enough to redeem itself through humor value.
