I enjoyed the Netflix series so I picked up the original audiobook. It's very different from the show; clearly the memoir was an inspiration for the show but other than a few names and a very few characters there's little resemblance. The original is a memoir; a very interesting one, and also raises some very valid concerns about the prison system and the US minimum sentencing laws for drug related crimes. The show is a drama, fully fiction, with much more conflict and excitement. So if you read the book expecting the same level of drama as the show, you're going to be disappointed; but if you're curious to get a first-hand account of the minimum security women's prison system, it's a very interesting read.
