It's nice this features John Carter's daughter, Tara, and features a female protagonist more than any other book in the series so far (Thuvia Maid of Mars was at least as much about Carthoris as about Thuvia). On the down side, Tara is a pretty shallow and uninteresting character and the plot isn't a lot better. The ending is particularly abrupt and deus ex machina.
