Review of 'The gravity of us' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
3.5 Stars, but I'm rounding up so I don't drag the average down, since I'm probably not the target audience for this book. Queer YA with social media and astronaut storylines? Sign me up! This sweet first novel has compelling main plot lines and a well-rounded supporting cast with their own challenges. In fact, the only real "ding" I'd give this book is for giving most of the secondary characters some hefty issues (anxiety, depression, financial/housing insecurity) without enough time to really dive in and give them their full exploration. Even so, it was a fun first novel. I'll definitely check out other books by Phil Stamper.
Also: if you listen to the audio version, there's a nice "behind the scenes" at the end where the author talks about the process of making the audio – his thoughts on casting choices, etc. – that I found interesting.
