pithypants reviewed Al Franken, Giant of the Senate by Al Franken
Review of 'Al Franken, Giant of the Senate' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
This book is almost five-star worthy. The only reason I'm holding back is because there are one or two places where it would've benefitted from a bit more editing - but really, it was a great and solid book.
Why I liked it:
- Al Franken IS entertaining. He has to play it straight now that he's a Senator, so it's fun to see him letting himself go a bit in the book.
- It provides an informative (and interesting - not dry) look at how our political system actually works. Everything from how deals are brokered to get a Bill passed, to campaigning and fundraising.
- He includes stories, both about his time at SNL and about his colleagues in the Senate, that are sort of like a nerd's version of reading gossip mags.
Above all, it gives me hope. In this weird political time, when I'm constantly aghast by the things that are happening, listening to this as an audiobook was like having a little pep talk each morning with Al Franken himself. I'm hoping he has ambitions for an even higher office, because I'd vote for him.
