Compelling as always, and nobody else writes with Clarke's efficiency: the main premise is immediately stated, mysteries are revealed, problems are presented and solved, and a few unknowns are left hanging around at the end, just so you don't get the impression that our big, uncaring universe is truly knowable --- all in time for everyone to head to an early dinner.
