Peter Petermann reviewed Valor's Choice by Tanya Huff (Valor Confederation, #1)
Review of "Valor's Choice" on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
When I read the blurb I got very interested in the story, as I had a similar idea on my mind for a while.
Sadly this book didn't live up to my expectations. The conflict between the older, peaceful species and their more aggressive new comers seems to be mostly a side note, mostly reduced to the typical civilian/politicians vs. Military stereotypes.
Now I have to mention that I still enjoyed reading it, as it is written quite well. The twist, without spoiling is prepared, hinted on without being completely obvious till it becomes necessary, so it doesn't get boring. But overall it just comes a tiny bit to short in character development and to shallow on the universe it plays in.
Even though I didn't feel I could honestly give more than three stars,I'm definitely going to give the next book in the series a try, as the potential is there.
If you enjoy military sci-fi, you probably will enjoy this book too.
