Devastatingly dark. Queer people, beware: the homophobia in this book is extremely upsetting. I almost didn't finish it. The legacy of sexual abuse, racism, colonialism, sexism, homophobia, and capitalism drives each character to make decisions that are difficult to witness. The writing is just okay, but the plot is well done, despite how much I didn't want to know what happened next because it was clear it wouldn't be something to celebrate
