As a person who spent the first 26 years of my life in the US and is now a Canadian citizen that volunteers as a first aid provider, this one in particular hit home and gave me a small shot of hope.

I'm not sure if the author is aware of exactly how on-the-nose he is with the plot point that international medical aid doesn't go to the US, but their legal system is already set up in such a way that international first aid volunteering organizations such as St John Ambulance don't operate there because of legal liabilities.
