These Tangled Vines

A fast-paced, easy read, that bounces back and forth between the main character (the daughter) uncovering family secrets, and her mother's affair some 31 years prior. Marital troubles, a whirlwind love affair, a horrible accident, and a code of silence in terms of who knew what (and when did they come to know it), adds layers to the betrayal. You'll love some characters and hate others. Not a HEA for the lovers, as they are both already deceased when this story unfolds, but somehow still an inspiring love story. An enjoyable summer / beach read.

Lillian was comfortable and warm, gazing up at a dazzling moon and a bright, starry sky. A fresh breeze billowed the white, gauzy drapes, and she let out a sigh, for the world was more beautiful to her than she had ever known it to be. Whether it was some sort of spiritual awakening brought on by the accident or simply the beauty of this place, she didn’t know. Either way, she was inexplicably overcome by the night’s magic.

So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.
