村田沙耶香: Convenience Store Woman (2018, Granta) 4 stars

Keiko Furukura had always been considered a strange child, and her parents always worried how …

Easy and essential read

I love it. Slice of life, heartwarming story of a woman the same as my age. I may not have the same work and passion as her, but the pressure for her to fit within the society is real and I can relate to it somehow. I am looking forward to reading more of the author's other works in the future.

June Hur: The Forest of Stolen Girls (Paperback, 2022, Square Fish) 4 stars

A dark, mysterious novel with wholesome familial feels

5 stars

Another masterpiece from June Hur! Started reading the ebook version and ended with the hardbound! Like her first book, I really enjoyed this book. It brought out lots of reactions from me like being annoyed at the protagonist for suspecting the shaman, and being sad when the elder's daughter unalived herself. Overall, it was a good experience, and I am excited to read the author's future projects.

Mel Torrefranca: Leaving Wishville (Paperback, 2020, Lost Island Press) 5 stars

A very good debut novel

First off, I hate all the people around Benji. Her mom sucks, her friends suck. But the story is incredible and makes up for the flat characters. I became invested in the plot even for just a day and a half; just imagine me cursing at 2 in the morning while reading the last few chapters of the book. I would love to see a sequel to this because I want to know more about what happened to Benji. While his friends had a good ending, he was not happy that he did not die and instead woke up in a different world. But then, a sequel would ruin the story, right? It's up to us readers to imagine/think about what happened to him.
