This isn't just a zombie story like all the others; it's different and you would totally not expect it. There are basically two different types of hungries(zombies). (I won't spoil)
The story is mostly centered around the relationship of Melanie and Justineau, a classroom teacher.
Sergeant Parks is quite strict and disciplined; especially towards Melanie, he does open up to her eventually halfway through the book.
This story has Greek mythology references, I personally liked it and it makes me like the teacher faster.
Melanie lives inside a cell, where every day Parks come and get her with a couple of soldiers with a gun in his hand aiming at Melanie's head, strapped in a wheelchair they move her to the classroom where Justineau, the teacher, teaches Melanie and other kids about basically everything; Melanie loves it when Justineau reads stories out loud to the class room.
Moreover, Melanie has …

Moreover, Melanie has many questions and is quite an observant girl, things are starting to change slowly when some of her class mates doesn't return to class anymore; they got taken away randomly. Now... It's Melanie's turn to be taken away and from here on out and everything is going to get BAD SHIT CRAZY.
A must read if you like thrillers, horror and of course zombie stories.

Okay so I picked up this book, because I used to be into gaming when I was younger. Around the age of 17 my interests started to fade away, after trying out new games I would not feel the same way about games anymore. The gamer girl inside my died, I also was an early backer of the Oculus Rift and owned the DEV kits as well; this made me get into the world of VR but a year or 2 later my interested faded again, eventually I bought the HTC Vive, and while it was amazing it didn't last long either.
I did play games (co-op) mostly with friends that I've known for 9+ years just to pass time and so we could catch up (they live far away and this is our way to catch up, by playing games) I'm also a PC gamer. Anyway, I also read …

I did play games (co-op) mostly with friends that I've known for 9+ years just to pass time and so we could catch up (they live far away and this is our way to catch up, by playing games) I'm also a PC gamer. Anyway, I also read some reviews about people that I follow calling this book one of their favorite books of the year.
This book made me eventually pick up gaming again, it made me decide to play NieR: Automata and I'm really addicted to the story, characters, political and cultural aspects of the game. I don't know if I will pick a game up after this since imo this is the best game I've ever played in a while and I doubt other games will come close.
Anyway, now let's talk about Warcross; so, the story is an easy ready. It can be read by anyone, it isn't difficult at all. I instantly knew who Zero was, I won't spoil his name but I'm sure most people will figure it out. The ending however, about Hideo's plan was unexpected and I liked how things turned out for Emika Chen at the end, I wish I would know more about her mother since the story focuses on her father most of the time, understandably since her mom left while she was young.
Anyway, I can't wait to read the second book sometime later this year. The world setting is great, a lot of details and easy to visualize while reading. The beginning of the story is set in New York and later in Tokyo. Emika Chen made me smile a lot of times in the first half of the book, she is awesome; I didn't fancy the rainbowish hair colors though, I don't know if the intention was to show support for LGBT+, which is great, I'm a bi sexual women my self, an Asian with bleached hair, but I just kinda found the rainbow too typical. But, anyway. What more should I write without spoiling? I'm not that great at writing reviews yet, anyway, I really recommend to read this book if you are(were) a gamer OR if you like competitive sports but then in a virtual game world with bounty hunters, hackers.
I also liked how they made a virtual world of the dark web, called, "darkcross".

Geez; how should I begin this review? Uhmm.. First of all there were a lot of old English words; Every 70 pages or so I had around 40 unknown words that I had to look up, this killed the flow of reading so it might influence me actually enjoying the book. I can see why it is beloved by many, it truly is a classic and written greatly; a great example..
So about the story: I enjoyed the story, a bit too long for my taste but the writing style kept me interested. I did found it absolutely boring at times and the characters freaking annoying. I really hated almost all of them they are fucking annoying. The only two I really liked are Nelly and young Catherine; I did find Nelly likable and I could understand her decisions and why she chose to do so. (it is …

The only two I really liked are Nelly and young Catherine; I did find Nelly likable and I could understand her decisions and why she chose to do so. (it is difficult not to view it from a modern lens sometimes). As for young Catherine; she was quite an annoying child, I think Nelly had to punish her in different ways so that she won't do the stupid things she chose to do, but I liked the way it turned out. She is the ONLY really likable person in this novel.
I'm giving this 3 stars since I liked it, just simply liked it. But I didn't really liked it so I will give it a 3; I wish I could've really liked it...
Also, to most people this book is romantic but this book is romantic to everyone except the people suffering in this book; seriously get real, something to think about.
edit; the characters are greatly written they are so different from the city folk. I hate these two families, but it doesn't mean that I think that the book or the characters are badly written; they are not!
