This is an incredible book which I found myself unable to put down. Written in straightforward prose and relatively short in length, it nevertheless features some deeply thought-provoking themes, including love, loss, discrimination, medical ethics, identity, the nature of education, and even the sanctity of life itself. It's a tremendously powerful novel that had me close to tears much of the time, particularly in the final part.
