Not as good as Black Ops, and it suffers from the same contrived ending as that book. Disappointing. Probably for the best that Mr Ryan has taken a 5-year break from the series.

Not my thing.
@r3t3ch@mastodon.social it reminded me of Kerouac's On the Road, another mid-century so-called classic. I loathed that one, but I managed to finish it because it was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I really don't understand the fascination with irredeemable characters.

While I enjoyed moments, I only got half-way through this. I wanted to finish it, but I kept finding excuses to not read it. Maybe, if I had fewer library books piled on my bedside table, I might have continued a little longer with this one.
