I am a slow on-off-reader unless a book is really good and I can not put it aside.

Andries Jan Kroese: Oppnå mer med mindre stress (Paperback, Norwegian (Bokmål) language, 2012, Hegnar Media)

Lever du en hverdag i stress? I Oppnå mer med mindre stress formidler forfatteren essensen …

Nyttige poeng for eigen refleksjon

Boka er ein god oppstart for oppmerksomhetstrening og sliter berre få gonger me repetisjon som det er vanleg med den sort av boker. Eg fekk mange gode forklaringar og måte for eigen refleksjon og eksempel i praksis.

The Sign of the Four (1890), also called The Sign of Four, is the second …

Cliché, olé

The books of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson include a lot of amusing clichés. What I liked about this novel "The Sign of Four" is not only the interesting story itself that in a (usual) twist reveals the criminal and their motive. The novel also has real history in its background and made me read a lot of Wikipedia. You need time though.

Min skyld (Hardcover, Norsk (Bokmål) language, Cappelen Damm)

Geir-Ståle Angeltveit: Maren fri fra ME (Hardcover, Norsk Bokmål language, 2023, Bok Fabrikken)

Trevor Noah: Born a Crime (2016, Spiegel & Grau)

Noah's path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with …

Stories of Trevor Noah (and South Africa)

The book starts light-hearted the same way young Trevor takes his life. He takes it as a fact, to be a born crime, somehow different from the rest of the family. As the author Trevor Noah puts his childhood into perspective - with entertaining anecdotes and insights. Many stories in the book create a mix of emotions to process. I needed often day-long breaks where I was just reflecting over a story.

Nearly every story brings a broader understanding of Apartheid and the struggles in South Africa. It makes you understand how unfair everything was set-up by design. How it evolved from colonialism to a modern police state - and eventually felt apart.

The book is well written and combines personal life with the day-to-day history of South Africa in a unique way. Whether you find Trevor interesting or the history of South Africa, this is a book for you.

Susan Cain, Susan Cain: Quiet : the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking (2012, Penguin Books, Limited)

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking is a 2012 …

Lengthy Anecdotes for each Point

I can imagine this book is more entertaining as an audio book or documentary. Though as a text book I struggled to motivate myself to read a five page anecdote to learn about a single point regarding extroverts or introverts. Anecdotes were more structured around stories than topics, which later on result in some repetition. Nevertheless it provides the reader with valid points to think about.

Managing people is difficult wherever you work, but the tech industry as a whole is …

A pratical Guide for Tech Leaders

The book is divided into chapters for different management roles. Every chapter describes in a practical and pragmatic way the challenges that come with a role. Unfortunately some generic information about assessment, conflict handling, and culture is hidden in mutliple chapters. Therefore is it not enough to read a few chapters for your actual situation to get the whole picture. You have to get through every chapter to extract important information that is applicable to all management roles.
