I read this book when I was just under ten, if my memory serves me correctly. And I think that is about the right age for this book. I saw some reviews from people who read the English translation which apparently is marketed as YA. I would argue that YA is already too old for this book. It is aimed at children of around 10 and they can thoroughly enjoy it. It has drama, adventure and a young protagonist. I really loved this book.
