Scott reviewed The kingdom of this world by Alejo Carpentier
Review of 'The kingdom of this world' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
A short, quick novel about the Haitian revolution and disastrous post-colonial rule as seen through the eyes of the slave Ti-Noel. Full of powerful symbolism and based of true events, tinged with Carpentier's "lo real maravilloso." The marvelous real and its cousin magical realism are not my thing, so it gets three stars.
