I have two gripes with this book. My first one is that it feels like the author escalated the scale of conflict faster than, the main character grows in power and skill. This resulted in some weird tournament like solution to a world ending war, to make the main character relevant to the story. Which to me is astounding, as my second gripe with the story is that the main character grows in power way too quickly (we have characters that have grown their skill in martial arts and cultivation level for centuries, yet the main character caught up in like 3 years) but it is a common issue, or even a feature of power fantasy type stories. Just that, in combination with even faster escalating threat level, it does not make the main character feel powerful.
