James Poniewozik: Audience Of One (Hardcover, 2019, Liveright Publishing)

Entertaining in a reality show manner but unfortunately it was (is) reality

Reading this book is a bit like watching a rerun, as we all know what happened (and who made it happen). but it does bring a media critic's insight into the rise of Trump with a media critic's hyperbolic but entertaining prose. And, following the typical review formula, the author unsparingly indicts TV (both the ratings hungry providers and us reality-show short-attention-span news-swilling fact-avoiding consumers) but holds out some vague and potential positives at the end. It is his business, after all.
