I read in english and german, and am open for all kinds of genres. My favorite vibes: lovely (especially nature-loving or animal-kind), unhinged, queer, melancholy, weird, soft, slow. (Not all at once, but would be interesting hehe.) I mostly read mangas/comics/GNs, but occasionally also love to dive into text-only books.

What a wild rollercoaster of emotions from Minami …

The first half was her on the bink of death, thinking Yuzu fell in love with someone else.

But then Tsubasa unintentionally helps her out – which was REALLY needed – and cured her a bit from the extreme blushing! At least, in the 2nd half, she was finally able to talk to Yuzu normally again, without stuttering and blushing too much.

Although the amount of misunderstanding were quite annoying! Literally just wanted to throw her into a therapy session with Elliot from Pandora Hearts …!

Ended on a fun note though, so I'm rating it 4 stars.

But the whole 'angst' does make me wonder how they've been prior to her catching romantic feelings, and how she imagines to actually navigate a romance with her, if she can't really be near her, without dying …

Meanwhile Yuzu continues to seem …

Plot: Snakeman saves sparrowman from boars, but sparrowman calls snakeman evil and they part ways. Upon meeting again, they accidentally lose their clothes, sparrowman sees snakeman's genitalia and is so mesmerized by it that he cannot help himself but grope him. Snakeman has never been touched in that way, but it felt kinda good, so now he wants to see sparrowman again.

~

I don't care if you don't have the same genitalia and may have never seen the genitalia of another species, but you do not just touch and keep touching it when the person tells you "no" multiple times!

That was absolutely cringe and uncomfortable. "Falling in love after rape" type of trope. Additionally, sparrow guy is very immature and childlike (I already found him annoying in the first chapter), so it basically felt like a child is molesting a young man, and that's even more uncomfortable.

A post-apocalyptic world, in which humanity has been wiped out through a crystal virus brought by aliens, and a girl with her animal-like sidekick, who are on a mission to clean the world, so it's safe for humans again, and to look for any survivors.

I love the concept.

Each chapter, Saya visits a different area to look for survivors and to dispose of the infected bodies. As the virus has only taken out humans, she occasionally meets robots or androids.

In each chapter, we get a glimpse of the dead's lives, and a bit more lore. Slow-paced, but wonderfully so.

The art is very detailed, especially the buildings feel quite real. You can grasp the vastness of the world, and the loneliness Saya must feel. Although she doesn't know anything else.

The character designs, especially some of the robots/AIs are quite interesting, although sometimes …

Storytelling-wise it falls a little flat, as it's always the same concept for each chapter/story: "X has a hard time in school and growing up, then gets diagnosed by doctor, and from then on things get better".
I had to take breaks between the chapters, as they were all so similar, making it difficult for me to properly concentrate and remember each of them individually. Although some stories did stand out by having some extreme characters (i.e., abusive parents who hit their children, or even teachers who lose control in class).
Even if you don't have concentration problems, I'd suggest to read maybe 1-2 chapters a day to let each sink in. And/or take notes.

Otherwise quite informative. While I don't plan on getting kids, some of the …

Oh gosh. Sakura's vent was... hurtful.

It hurts because technically that vent should've been directed at her mother. Well, Hougatsu too, yes, since her apathy is obviously making things worse for Sakura's feelings. But mostly her mother, cause you can tell how much love she was neglected of as a child. Choosing a friend like Hougatsu was like one of the worst options, since she doesn't get the love she needs from Hougatsu, and I'm not talking about romance or anything, just simply love as in caring for each other.
Of course, Sakura does want more than just platonic love (and she finally realized and admitted that to herself!), but they need a base first. Hougatsu has her moments where she smiles a little bit, and thus giving Sakura false hopes, making her fall for Hougatsu even more, and ending up misreading their tiny progress as something more.

And thus, …

Wow, Hougatsu's been so annoying with her apathy the whole volume, making me want this rate 2 or 3 stars at most, but then the last chapter was so cute and much more lively that 3 stars feel way too few. Oof, author, why.

Been a while since I've read volume 3, but I'm pretty sure Hougatsu wasn't that apathetic the previous volumes, right? More and more it feels like she's becoming an empty shell.

And poor Sakura. She's really trying her best, also with overcoming her social anxiety. Yet there's so many signs that Hougatsu doesn't see more than a little sister that needs to be cared for.
It also hurts cause their relationship more and more reminds me of a friendship I had. I was similar to Adachi, I hadn't seen the signs before it was too late, which still eats at me now, years later.

I hope …

Review of 'Sister and Giant' on 'Storygraph'

Damn, didn't expect it to get so dark in the first chapter already.

But I love it.

Also, finally an isekai where the protagonist isn't overpowered. She doesn't even have powers, as she refused it when the goddess of this world offered it to her. An anti-hero reincarnated into a fantasy/DnD world, who made it her job to protect the weak, together with a giant, who's been an outsider in her clan.

Love the disability rep. Hinako, the protagonist, has only one arm, but it's not much of a disability for her. Alice, the giant, could have dwarfism. But while they're seen as weak in their "clans", they're much more powerful than you think and together they form an unstoppable team.
A lot of background characters also have disabilities (amputations mostly), but it's not highlighted as special. It's simply there. A more realistic portrayal of the real world than slice …

And it gets even darker...

Be-con really said "I'm gonna add whatever themes I want and idc whether you like it or not", and ngl I love them for it.

Hinako really did herself a favor by declining an ability from the goddess.
As cruel as it is, I want a crossover with all the other overpowered-male-portagonist-isekais to jump into this world and get some Karma for their selfishness. Heh.

The artist really loves to draw cut off limbs or body horror in general. But the artstyle is good, so even if it's a bit too yandere sometimes, I can't complain much. And I do love the vibe kinda. It's intriguing.

We've visited a giant clan and there's been a new addition to the team: Carula, who may seem innocent at first, but has secrets of her own. Seems to be an ally so far though, I hope she won't …

Bisco Kida, Kei Coffman, Nicole Roderick: After We Gazed at the Starry Sky (2023, Yen Press LLC) 3 stars

Review of 'After We Gazed at the Starry Sky' on 'Storygraph'

I like the rep and the premise (paraplegic protagonist & BL), but the execution unfortunately didn’t entirely touch me.

I don’t really see the chemistry that the author’s trying to portray. Bisco (the author) makes it look like they’ve been dating of months, and I think the problem is obviously that they haven’t. Author’s forgetting that just because these characters have been living in their mind for years, doesn’t actually make TougoSuba „canon“ for years, and won’t have the same effect on the reader, if not portrayed well.
They are cute, yes, but feel way too close for that short amount of time. Their dynamic still feels like Tougo is just hanging out with a fan of his, but I don’t really see the “madly in love“ vibe that Subaru’s bff described.
Although his fanboying is valid, but…
I can’t quite describe it. Their scenes feel slow, slice-of-life like, but …

Review of 'Laid-back Camp. 1' on 'Storygraph'

That was cute and quite relaxing (Iyashikei)! But also made me wanna go camping. Haven't been camping since I was 12 or sth!! :0

I imagined the story a bit differently – like, episodic adventures with them both camping together. And while it is "episodic adventures" theme, they don't actually camp each chapter. You'd think Rin is the protagonist (right girl on the cover), and while she is, there's much more from Nadeshiko's POV (left girl on the cover). Understandable, since Rin is a pro at camping, while Nadeshiko basically learns with the reader.
Although it's not exactly like I imagined it, it's still worth continuing.

Rin is more of a quiet, solo type, while Nadeshiko is very energetic. They're like hot and cold and the story is like a ping pong game between the two. But mostly slow-paced. (Which is good.)

I love all the info the reader gets. …

Review of 'Asumi-Chan Is Interested in Lesbian Brothels! Vol. 5' on 'Storygraph'

Loving the consent!!! Especially in chapter 18.

While I said in last volume, that I liked the variety more, now I like the routine she has with Nanao more. (Well, more or less. I still like the variety with the brothels, but also this. Although not really healthy in the long run.) Though that brothel chapter was also nice.

Have I mentioned how much I love the way the author approaches sex? Breaks all stereotypes or popular tropes and gives them the healthy/positive alternative.

I’m still surprised of how wholesome this manga is. Actually became one of my comfort mangas. Which is kinda weird as a sex-repulsed ace, but also shows how good the author is.

Can't wait for volume 6! Although I’m afraid it might come to an end soon. I was hoping for it to run forever, like One Piece or Pokemon. :(
At least I hope Nanao …

Review of 'Adachi and Shimamura, Vol. 3 (manga)' on 'Storygraph'

So, we finally got the first names of the two main characters!
Shimamura: Hougatsu
Adachi: Sakura

Well, it is getting better, with Sakura trying to be more confident, but it's still quite awkward between them.
As Hougatsu observed it herself: Hino and Nagafuji are on the same wavelength, whereas Hougatsu and Sakura not so much.

Sakura is getting a bit more confident, as said, but Hougatsu keeps being so oblivious. She does see the signs, she keeps thinking about how different Sakura's behavior is to her other friends, but she always keeps coming back to the conclusion that it must be Sakura's character. (The amount of times she said, "it's so very Adachi-like"...)
I don't think she's homophobic or anything, maybe she's just confused about her own feelings or where it may lead to, once she realizes why Sakura acts like that... but it's still a bit weird. Very back-and-forth, …

Still quite awkward between them... :')
They do hang out more, but Shimamura keeps being oblivious and Adachi rarely can form a sentence.

And that one rivalry trope... Nothing new, but rivalry with a kid is a bit of an awkward trope in romances... I mean, I kinda get it, since people are usually really sweet with kids, so it’s easy to get jealous, but... still kinda weird to go as far and call it rivalry, in a romantic way.

~

I'm confused why the bonus chapters have a different art style + same story as the previous chapter, except with a different perspective and sometimes different places as well. I do prefer the bonus chapter routes, though, as they are usually less awkward.

I did like that one chapter, where Shimamura stopped a mother talking bad about her child behind their back (Shimamura wasn't part of the conversation, but …

The beginning was a bit boring tbh and kinda... awkward. Like, the pace was off. But it got better in the 2nd half.

Just like the art. What was rather messy at first, turned more clean at the end. Especially chapter 5.5 was quite the progress.

I’m pretty taken aback by how easy it is to skip class/school in Japan, apparently. Aren’t the teachers worried or will tell their parents? I mean, the way how chill Shimamura’s friends already reacted... as if school was just a hobby or something. 🤔

It’s nice how Adachi could accept her crush on Shimamura, but she does need to get a grip on herself... and Shimamura needs to be less oblivious. 😭
But I could relate to Adachi’s desire, wanting to be special to Shimamura, a lot, and her platonic jealousy. (Which for her turned into romantic jealousy.)

Overall cute tho, albeit a bit …
