While I don't agree with all Bostrom's points, the general idea of AI growth implications is definitely worth thinking about, and the book contains tons of references to different experiments and research papers. My favorites include nematode brain simulation (www.sciencealert.com/scientists-put-worm-brain-in-lego-robot-openworm-connectome) and a neural network cheating when building a working circuit without an oscillator by utilizing other computer's pulses in the room (hackaday.com/2018/11/12/how-to-evolve-a-radio/)
This book has highly influenced my views on consciousness as a result of increasing levels of self-reflection. I still reread some chapters to this day because GEB itself is full of fun Easter eggs and self-references
