Christian Kracht, Yu Hua, Mo Yan, en Haruki Murakami. Maar ik lees ook graag non-fictie zoals biografien en boeken wetenschap, AI en nieuwe overheid.

Ich habe dieses Buch vor ein paar Jahren in einem Rutsch gelesen. Der Autor beschreibt die Handlung aus der Perspektive verschiedener Hauptfiguren. In einer Geschichte mit so unterschiedlichen Charakteren mit sehr unterschiedlichen Weltanschauungen funktioniert das sehr gut. Empfohlen.

But that makes a less intriguing title i suppose. I want to read this because the first chapter mentions the Chaos Computer Club in the contents and i an interested in the European perspective.

Readers who follow Cory Doctorows (@pluralistic@mamot.fr ) writings will be familiar with the points he discusses in this book. But even for those this will be an interesting read since he builds his arguments well. First presenting the problem, then the causes and ending with possible directions to regain our digital space. He argues that we have conceded control over our digital lives to a group of oligarchs and competitive compatibility offers us a way out. Competitive compatibility is a way to even the playing field so that not just the big platforms can monopolise out digital space but that it is open for citizens and (small) businesses alike. A level playing field which has resulted in the digital revolution in the past but which we should retake by seizing the means of computation.

De rode kamer is een klassieker in China die nog altijd veel gelezen wordt. Het verhaal is op een heel toegankelijke manier geschreven, je leert de (vele) hoofdpersonen echt kennen. Daar heb je ook de tijd voor want het is een behoorlijk dik boek. De lengte van het boek geeft de ruimte om de levens en carrieres van de familieleden levend te maken. Het boek geeft je daardoor een heel breed beeld van het leven in het China in de Qing periode.
