Linus Torvalds, David Diamond: Just for Fun (Paperback, 2002, W W Norton & Co Inc)

Linus Torvalds erzählt, wie es dazu kam, dass er Linux entwickelte und gibt Einblicke in …

I'm not sure what I expected.

I enjoyed this for the nostalgia of the time in the mid to late nineties when I first formated my only hard drive and started installing Linux. Even though I didn't gave any Unix experience and had no idea if my hardware was supported.

All the related parts of the book - the MINIX stuff, the discussion of how development happened, of the eventual success. Mentions of Stallman and Raymond and conferences that I attended — all very nostalgic and interesting.

I should have stopped reading when it turned from being about the geek and more about cashing out for millions and buying a giant house. Even going on about the philosophy of open source and the meaning of life just feels like filler.
