A little on the light hearted side, Theft of Swards doesn't take itself too seriously and I like that.
I don't know exactly how to categorize this fantasy.
The fantasy element is subtle yet important to the plot.
Fairytale Schmaltz is none existent and even made fun of.
It lacks all the elements that sometimes make me cringe when reading fantasy.
My only complaint is that the bad guys seem to be very competent when setting up long range plans on one hand, and ridiculously incompetent comic villains when these plans finally come to fruition.
