This book continues Blackout, and is essentially volume two of a single large book.
It starts a little slow, but the action soon picks up and we're thrown back into the roller coaster ride between hope and despair as our time travelers try and fail and try to find their way back home.
Willis's books seem to lack what Pratchett terms, Narrative Causality. The characters blunder about, trying this or that, failing and trying something else, making mistakes, misunderstanding, forgetting and being wring. Much like real life as opposed to story, where things are usually to neat.
This makes for a very long book, and even I as a Willis fan had moments when I wondered how long she would keep this up. But, I ended up caring so much about the characters, I couldn't stop reading hoping for rescue, fearing defeat.
