In post-apocalyptic Colorado, a state now covered in sand, one family struggles to survive and stay united after the father leaves. Wife and mother, Rose, has only a whore house and as her income dwindles, she finds she must work in the establishment she runs. Her children, Palmer, Victoria, Rob and Conner, all take on the dangerous job of being sand divers, hoping to help their mother with expenses.

This book, again, is not Wool. Of course it is not, I do not think there could be another. It is however very good, and it has themes of Wool, the dystopian world, the vagueness that Howey keeps around what exactly the sta te of thw orld is in. But is also shares characteristics of other novels of his, like Molly Fyde and the dimension where time does not move like ours. There are surely issues with this book, I especially hated the hatred he displays towards sex workers, even though in the context of the book is it somewhat understandable and in the end there is some redemption, but I still very much liked reading it, and the end, although unexpected and not clarifying all questions, is as great of an end as we could have hoped for.
Fascinating story! It reminded me of Frank Herbert's Dune. Still, it is quite different but the sand relates the two stories, although with a lot less focus on the water in Sand. The concept of sand diving is well thought out and enables a captivating storyline.
