Morrison draws on history, art, mythology, and his own astonishing journeys through this alternate universe as a comic book writer to provide the first true chronicle of the superhero.

This book is a narrative mess, but it's kind of a glorious mess. I suspect that if I wasn't already a fan of Morrison and didn't have some knowledge of comics history in general, I would have been fairly lost. That said, I love Morrison, and despite the craziness and arrogance, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. This book is certainly not a comprehensive history of comics and superheros, but it definitely provides a major insights into the mind of a modern master in the field.
