this mid-trilogy book lacks the punch of the first one, but still maintains my interest while taking on the harsh task of bridging a first and a last novel in a trilogy. the characters are just as vivid and deep as in the first installment, and the story is captivating, though in a more relaxed manner
Not as successful (or interesting) as its predecessor. Part two of the Luna story continues to focus on the (almost non-existent) Corta family at the expense of the four remaining clans—a bit of a missed opportunity, in my opinion. Although the ending was exhilarating, this volume seems to exist merely to set up the final book in the trilogy.
Meh. McDonald is trying to do too much here, and it shows. Too many characters, too thinly drawn to be interesting; too many plot lines, too confusing to follow. Hard to recommend, despite liking lots of his other things.
