Caffeinated Book Dragon reviewed We Seven
I wanted to know more... but the more obscure stories still elude.
3 stars
It's rather thorough work describing the original seven mercury astronauts and what the program was like through their lives. I thought it was fascinating, and you can hear their voices as they talk about it. It does get a bit technical--a lot technical--but the astronauts are patient teachers, giving you a good idea as to what it is they're talking about.
The only reason I gave this three stars instead of more is that it focuses a bit too much on Shepard and Glenn. This book was one of the sources for The Right Stuff, and if these bits were cut out of the overall narrative here, it's no wonder they didn't show up in the film or Tom Wolfe novel. A bit disappointing that we're missing such interesting stories, though they do have small sections toward the beginning.
