Scott reviewed Saga: Compendium One by Brian K. Vaughan
Keep things simple
5 stars
I had heard about how great this book was, but I was a bit squeamish when it started. Then a friend lent me vol 1, and I saw how cool it is. I asked for this compendium for xmas one year. And I just finished it.
Now I want more. So much of this is a basic story. But it is also more complex. And could be more complex, but is more concerned about telling the story of this family, and the people hunting them. It's really personal, with grand ideas. It's not modest, with breasts, penises, butts, as well as gore, blood, and the death of people you dont want to die. But it's not porn nor a gore-fest.
Fiona's art is something to behold. There is not alot of fancy shading or anything. Alot of it is basic inking and flat colors. BUT, it is hard to describe …

Fiona's art is something to behold. There is not alot of fancy shading or anything. Alot of it is basic inking and flat colors. BUT, it is hard to describe how effective the whole of the art is at conveying each scene. There is a care and intelligence. Not just to the characters and actions, but to the backgrounds as well.
