"A bluebear has twenty-seven lives. I shall recount thirteen and a half of them in this book but keep quiet about the rest," says the narrator of Walter Moers's epic adventure. "What about the Minipirates? What about the Hobgoblins, the Spiderwitch, the Babbling Billows, the Troglotroll, the Mountain Maggot...Mine is a tale of mortal danger and eternal love, of hair's breadth, last-minute escapes." Welcome to the fantastic world of Zamonia, populated by all manner of extraordinary characters. It's a land of imaginative lunacy and supreme adventure, wicked satire and epic fantasy, all mixed together, turned on its head, and lavishly illustrated by the author.

Wahnsinn, was für ein umfassendes Universum Moers hier kreiert

4 stars

Imaginative and adventurous. Reminded me of THGTG. If you have enjoyed THGTH you sure would love this too.

My favourites from this book include:

“Life is too precious to be left to chance”
and “I never trained, however, because I was a spontaneous talent. Practising spoiled my style.”

Having read this chunky book (thanks to Felipe) gives me impetus that someday I could read LOTR, the book I never attempt to read because of the volume and extremely small font. #someday

Review of "Die 13 1/2 Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär" on 'Goodreads'

I enjoyed this book a lot. The humor was very absurd and silly and I liked that. But unfortunately it suffers from the same problem as Douglas Adams' books: it gets old after a book. I tried some of Moers' other books and just couldn't get into them the same as with Käpt'n Blaubär. I guess being different than the rest is a blessing and a curse.
