A Safe Girl to Love, winner of the Lambda Literary Award for transgender fiction, was first published to great acclaim in 2014. Now back in print after a long absence, this edition includes a new afterword by the author, Casey Plett, whose other books include Little Fish (Lambda Literary Award and Amazon Canada First Novel Award winner) and A Dream of a Woman (longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize).
A Safe Girl to Love foregrounds the experiences of young trans women stumbling through loss, sex, harassment, and love in settings ranging from a rural Mennonite town to a hipster gay bar in Brooklyn. These eleven unique stories, shiny with whisky and prairie sunsets, rattling subways and neglected cats, show that growing up as a trans girl can be charming, funny, frustrating, or sad, but never predictable.
Short stories. | Includes new afterword. | Previously published: New York: Topside Press, 2014

This is another book that just like, really got to me... the vignettes are a really nice format that work really well. It's a really emotive read that again captures a very specific experience... feeling like it left me with a whole lot to reflect on #thattranslitexperience
This book was amazing. So many amazing characters I felt so connected to.
I think this needs to go on everyone's "Must Read" list.
