Annette C. Boehm reviewed Sacred Country by Rose Tremain
Review of 'Sacred Country' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
A very moving, intense book. At age 6, Mary realizes she is really a boy, even if her body doesn't reflect that. But this is rural England in the 1950s, and so she cannot tell anyone except her pet hen. The book follows Mary and several other characters as they try to find out who / what they are and what they want from life.
