a hefty autobiography of a favorite actor but just the first half of a voluminous career

This autobiography was published in 1991, so some if hasn't aged well (fond reminscences of Woody Allen and Prince Andrew), and it predates much of my favorite work in the later indie-ish stage of his career which I'd love to hear about (Cider House Rules, Children of Men...), but it is still a heartwarming rags-to-somewhat-rich story with fun anecdotes and no hint of a ghost-writer, so you can almost hear the narration in his Cockney-inflected voice (but his film voice, according to the book his authentic accent was indeciferable to his American costars).
