Review of 'The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place : Book III' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
The audiobook:
Criteria for a commute audiobook: it must be (1) simple enough that I can divide attention between book and driving and still follow along, but also (2) interesting enough to keep me awake on a very long drive; and (optionally) (3) a great reader is always welcome.
This book meets requirements (1) and (2) -- in a lot of ways, YA fiction is ideal for commute audiobooks because it's less cognitively taxing than the "books for adults" I tend to prefer. Regarding (3), I really like the reader's "narrator voice" and most of her character voices, but there are a couple voices that are a little too nails-on-the-chalkboard for my liking, so I'll give her a 3.5/5 as a narrator.

The book:
This is my favorite of the series so far. All 3 installments have been sufficiently entertaining, but this is the first that really works on its own as an individual novel with most of the book's events contributing to the book's narrative arc, with just enough detail to tie it in to the larger mystery/ies of the series. A couple things I particularly like about these books: (1) the narrator's asides about language usage; (2) Miss Penelope Lumley, who is charming, earnest, quite concerned with propriety, and amusingly obsessed with a series of books about a girl and her horse; (3) Lady Constance Ashton, who is basically the Paris Hilton of her time.
