Another book that I was supposed to read in grade school – theoretically, I read it in junior high. Emphasis on"theoretically"…
Apparently, Mark Twain took time out of writing of Huckleberry Finn to write this book – my impression is that it was his favorite and most notable to him. It points out the intense differences between how individuals were treated simply because of birth, and it points out the ridiculous of this! Clearly, we in the US ought to keep this in mind when we denigrate people simply because of their evident circumstances! A telling book of the ages…

A fun romp. I had never read it before, although I heard all sorts of rumors about the book and the movie from early childhood. I always thought I should read the book, and when I did, I discovered that memories from rumors were incomplete and incorrect! Mark Twain was a wonderful spinner of tales that painted children as they actually were, as opposed to how people wanted to remember them! The two main children, Tom and Becky, as well as Huckleberry Finn, were well-rounded characters, as well as well-rounded PEOPLE.

What fun to revisit an old favorite! I had forgotten amounts of it, despite the fact that I've read it at least two or three times, but it's been years!
The story, of course, retells the the tales of a young teenager from the Old South rafting down a river (presumably the Mississippi) with his friend, the "niggar" Jim, antes discovers friendship and trust and caring where it wasn't expected in the Old South. The tender but thrilling story with lots of adventure and twists! I remembered why I like the story so well :-)

I listened to this one from Librivox. It played at double speed for some reason my mp3 player, which only added to the hilarity.
