This is the kind of book that I tag "sad that it ended". Yeah, it includes mental illness, a suicide attempt and pregnancy, but those are not the main features. That would be a Jodi Picoult novel. Rat Girl is your opportunity to experience the exquisite sharpness of an 18-year-old's thoughts and life, as told by herself much later, with the same hard-yet-soft writing that is found in her lyrics.

A riveting, honest portrait of one our finest modern musicians. It shines a whole new light on music I've loved for years. This is probably the best music history/memoir I've ever read.
