Just lovely. Feels like a book that probably needs to be read multiple times before it reveals itself fully.

"We are all migrants through time" is one of the most memorable sentences in this novel, which illuminates the modern immigrant experience in a personal way, via a realistic and relatable love story. This book helped me empathize with the stories of refugees (particularly from Syria) that feel so impersonal in news stories. The device of magical doors reminded me of the underground train system in "The Underground Railroad," and it's effective without being intrusive.
