Carnet De Voyage (Travel Journal)

A cartoonist sketching his way through a tour of Europe to promote his graphic novel, with a stop over in Morocco. Many portraits and slices of life from his various encounters. I appreciated his honesty about his own struggles while traveling, from feeling ill from his diet change to being neurotic about feeling ill, from being wary of being scammed to playing along with the scam because it might lead to an invitation to a family home that will be an interesting experience and good fodder for his travelogue. Enjoyable read but made me nostalgic for traveling to new places and wandering around them, and a bit sad thinking about how long it will be until I get to do it again.

Loved this travel journal by Craig Thompson. From it, I learned not to travel alone, not to draw in the streets of Marrakesh and Morocco and to pretend to be Canadian instead of American when traveling in Europe :)

Although, this was a travel journal, I felt like Thompson shared so much more with readers than his destinations and meals. He introduced us to his friends, to those who helped him along the way, and to the one he left behind.

Thompson draws beautifully and makes it a joy to scour over his drawings and find the smallest details. At the same time, it was sad to view his misery of being alone, being in pain emotionally and physically, and being worn down with the tour so far from home.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
