Eh? The artwork isn't great, there were a couple instances where Mal looked like another character and I had a hard time distinguishing them. Wash rarely looks right, but Simon is almost always dead on. These leads up to Serenity which alone makes it meh.
Found this recently, after having bought it when it was new. All I remembered was that I didn't like it. I just read through it again, and I have to adjust that up to "it's ok". Perhaps it's because of the format, but the story feels brief and rushed. The character development is minimal. Some characters are more like cameos than actual members of the party. Dialogue and banter (etc.) are the parts from Firefly and Serenity that stick out to me, not the action. Perhaps what this would have needed was some more breathing room? I understand this is a compilation of issues, which might make it hard to have too much breathing room. Still, it delivers when it comes to its main purpose: It's more Firefly. And that's what we all wanted.
I'm loving these graphic novels, it's nice to see these characters developed a little more, even if River is still as complex as ever. Better Days was a great story; all the others were interesting I just think the artwork was lacking in them; though more Wash was good to see.
