LemmiSchmoeker reviewed The Select by F. Paul Wilson
Wilson doesn't have a very firm grip on the situation
3 stars
This begins well, with a solid, though not too subtle writing style, and an interesting situation. Unfortunately, Wilson doesn't have a very firm grip on this situation, returning time after time to the same questions and basic thoughts, so that a fourth of the book is over before all the main characters have even entered the venue. The pace is so dragged out, with foreboding following foreboding, all along the same lines, that those 70 pages of the novel were enough for me. I suspect that the story itself won't be half bad, but since the protagonist is so bland, it will have to do without me.
