I'm so sad right now. I absolutely adore this series. Cole and Jae are beautiful and their love was a joy to watch grow and them grow with it. Bobby and Ichi both picked up my heart along the way and I was so excited to read about them. Then I read this book. Did the author run out of time or interest? Were they forced to write it? That's what it felt like.
The damn time jumping in this story - I understood the opening scene and then 6 mos jump. After that though, it was like watching a move, but on fast forward with random stops to see where you were in the story.
There was no build up of their love. I wanted to watch it grow, but it was mostly telling and not showing. Which if you're not going to let me watch a relationship grow …

There was no build up of their love. I wanted to watch it grow, but it was mostly telling and not showing. Which if you're not going to let me watch a relationship grow then at least give me another plot line, but no, other than their cliff notes romance there was no plot to the story. The two main conflicts were telling Cole and Bobby's son finding out he was gay. Both events went from anger to acceptance within a few pages. Maybe it would have felt more realistic if the talking out part had gone differently? I don't know. Just felt awkward and empty.
I know it was less than 200 pages so I hadn't expected epic, but this book could have been absorbed into the series and gone over better.
That being said, I think this author has one of the most beautiful ways of both telling a story and descriptions. She makes me laugh and my heart ache with happiness. This story may have been a disappointment, but the series is still one of my favs. (I also very much enjoyed her Sinner's series.) So I'm off to write a glowing review of the other Cole books to make up for my poor review of this one.
